As we approach the twenty-first century, religious fundamentalism remains an influential force in the political arena. Evidence for the continued strength of this movement includes the activities of the Moral Majority and the Presidential candidacy of evangelist Pat Robertson. Secularization and Fundamentalism Reconsidered, the final volume in the important series, Religion and the Political Order, discusses religious fundamentalism in depth and continues the exploration of the interaction between politics and religion around the world. Articles for this volume have been contributed by a distinguished group of sociologists of religion.

Topics addressed in Secularization and Fundamentalism Reconsidered include: a reappraisal of secularization theory in light of its failure to account for the lively presence of religion as a political force; analysis of fundamentalism among both Christians and Moslems and the prospect of a global fundamentalist trend; the role of the mass media in the mobilization of the New Christian Right; the attitudes of religious groups in America toward the free enterprise system; and the harnessing of religious identity to national identity in Poland, France, Great Britain, and the United States.

Secularization and Fundamentalism Reconsidered is an indispensable work for theologians, sociologists, and all those who wish to examine the impact of religious fundamentalism and politics.
