Rice, Joan
Joan Rice, R.N., B.S.N., Parent Educator and Pediatric Nurse, is a graduate of Duke University and holds a California Adult Education Teaching Credential in Parent Education. She has worked as a Pediatric Nurse at Duke University Medical Center, Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles and on a Child Psychiatric Unit at the Medical University of South Carolina. She taught Pediatric Nursing and Psychiatric Nursing at the Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in South Bend, Indiana.

For the past thirty years she has taught parenting classes. As the Director of Parent Education and Staff Development of the Princeton Family Resource Center for fourteen years, she was responsible for a parent education and support center serving approximately 250 families a week. She was the Infant/Toddler Program Director for the Warner Bros. Children’s Center for its opening year. She is now teaching parenting classes in California at the Burbank Preschool Education Program, the Parent Participation Programs of Arroyo Grande and San Luis Obispo, Allan Hancock College, the Foster Parent Program at Cuesta College and at Warner Bros. Studios.

While teaching parenting classes for 30 years, she has developed a deep understanding of what concerns parents. Each chapter of Parenting Solutions will be like attending a thought-provoking, behavior-changing parenting workshop.

  • Professional Clear Designated Subjects Adult Education Teaching Credential: Parent Education; California Commission on Teacher Credentialing.

  • Completed The Supervision and Administration of Early Childhood Programs classes at UCLA (completing the California Department of Social Services requirements for Infant Program Director of a Child Care Center).
